About Michael Williams

Our team is led by Michael Williams who offers thirty years’ experience working in resource based, energy and capital intensive industries such as iron, steel, ferroalloys, cement, quicklime, mining and waste derived biofuels. His approach is to continuously drive improvement in safety, environment, quality, sales, production and cost performance through effective long term strategic planning, strong goal orientation, a process improvement focus and through building organisational and leadership accountability and effectiveness.

Michael has worked in a wide range of roles including:

  • General management of multiple operating sites and mines across Australia
  • Plant management, production management and process engineering roles
  • Commissioning management
  • Commercial management of strategic supply commodities – particularly energy and raw materials
  • Strategy formulation and execution management
  • Joint Venture Board Directorship – Biofuels Company

Prior to founding Altus Energy, Michael was General Manager Operations for the Cement & Lime Division of Adelaide Brighton Cement. In this role he was responsible for managing more than 15 manufacturing, mining and marine operations Australia wide with 478 permanent employees, an annual operating budget of $550m and an annual energy expenditure of $130m.

Michael has a Masters Degree in Applied Finance and Investment, a Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering, a Bachelor of Applied Economics and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course. He is Six Sigma Black Belt trained and uses a combination of Six Sigma processes and tools to analyse and identify efficiency improvements.
